EXOTERRA SOLUTIONS is a professional architecture and sustainability consulting firm dedicated to positively enhancing the built environment through the implementation of sustainable (green) design, construction and operational practices. Located in Nashville, TN we are working to raise awareness of green building practices here and throughout the Southeast United States. What makes us GREEN?EXOTERRA is Latin for “out of Earth.” It is the foundational principle of this firm; essential to what we do, how we live and what legacy we leave behind. It implies a thoughtfulness about nature, ecology, conservation and preservation. Excessive consumption of natural resources has weakened our ability to replenish those same resources. Decisions that are made daily have a lasting impact on the future of our children and the world we will leave behind. Our cultural mentality must shift towards a Cradle to Cradle mindset. Meaning, the resources we take out of the Earth are replenished in a natural and balanced cycle. The built environment plays a tremendous role in this natural cycle either positively or negatively. Buildings in America use 70% of all energy generated in this country, while the construction of these buildings contribute to more than 35% of all land fill waste generated. Indoor Air Quality in many buildings and homes is five times more polluted than the outside air. We flush billions of gallons of potable water down the drain annually while debating over ways to locate and acquire more resources. “More” is simply not the answer. Shifting our cultural mindset and practices is no longer optional. Sustainability, conservation, environmentalism and conservancy must become key foci for our progress to make a difference for future generations. Intelligent design, which is synonymous with good stewardship, can often create a net cash flow situation for the home or building owner. An integrated design process is essential in a sustainable design process to maximize the potential for the most responsive design solutions. Solutions that not only impact the look or feel of a space or building, but also work within the constraints of budget, schedule, program and preferences all while carefully considering the environment, life-cycle costs and impacts of a project.
